ABOUT
Angelina Gualdoni’s (b. 1975, San Francisco, CA) paintings incorporate overlapping pours and variegated color caused by paint pushing through from the back of the canvas. Her abstracted still lifes and interiors surround the intimate items that build our everyday lives with a vibrating, malleable reality. Overlapping shapes and varied thickness of paint, combined with ghostly marks from the reverse of the painting, confuse our sense of direction. The subject becomes the complicated play between background and foreground, while fragmented geometric patterns reference wallpaper, textiles, and early-20th century women artists such as Sonia Delaunay and Barbara Stepanova.
