Nathaniel Robinson

Painter and sculptor Nathaniel Robinson (b. 1980, Providence, RI) makes what the New York Times calls “technically impressive, philosophically provocative works that play in the gap between perception and cognition.” Using handmade molds and fiberglass-reinforced gypsum cement, his sculptures are oversize simulacra of mundane objects. His paintings, meanwhile, merge muted realism with unexpected abstraction, inspired by the window views on his frequent train trips to and from Brewster, New York, where Robinson currently lives and works.
