Laurent Proux

Laurent Proux creates figurative paintings inspired by photographs. In artificial color he depicts sometimes brutal, sometimes sentimental subject matter such as industrial machinery, workplaces, and sexualized bodies. He approaches the human body in fragments, distorting the body into unexpected positions. The exaggerated, isolated, hyper-realistic quality of his work has echoes of Edward Hopper—the viewer becomes invested in the enigmatic psychology of the subjects.
